DermaWand Review: Beauty Salon Treatment

Before we get stuck into our DermaWand review it’s probably important to understand the principles behind the technology, how it works, and what it does, what problems is it trying to solve, and are there any alternative treatments?

Derma Wand Technology

High frequency radio waves have, according to DermaWand, been used by and been taught by UK beauty professionals for a number of years. The DermaWand technology works on a similar principle with the difference that a lower frequency and amplitude is used, this makes it a better choice for frequent at home use. High-frequency skin tightening is a method of using RF energy to stimulate the production of collagen in the subdermal layer, which in turn will reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The technology has been subject to a number of clinical trials and medical investigations and the consensus is that it does work in theory as well as practice, with the caveat that not all providers of the treatment are created equally; some are more effective than others.

High-Frequency Treatment Alternatives

There are of course a number of traditional remedies for skin tightening, for example, creams, lotions, and microdermabrasion, all of these work on the superficial skin layer and will do little to the long-term appearance of lines or wrinkles. High frequency is different in that it works by penetrating deep into the tissue to stimulate collagen production, helping fill out the skin and improve elasticity. However, it should be noted that HF treatment is rarely an overnight miracle; it may take several weeks of consistent use to notice any visible changes to the skin. It should be noted that older users may experience improvements faster than younger users. This is likely because there is more room for improvement and changes will be noticed faster.

Professional High-Frequency Treatment

So we now know how the technology works and how it differs from other therapy methods, we also know that during clinical trials it has been proven to improve the appearance of wrinkles and lines. But what about in the real world? I can tell you from my own experience that it can make a world of difference… as long as you’re willing to pay for it. My local beauty salon provides a package of 12 treatment spread over a 3 month period for $900, so it’s definitely not cheap.

Why Did I Try High-Frequency Skin Tightening?

I woke one morning and looked over at my husband and said to myself “when did he get so old?” I then looked in the mirror, sighed, and ordered the salon treatment that very afternoon. Over the course of twelve sixty minute treatments, I experienced high-frequency skin tightening. The experience was not particularly enjoyable, but it was also not unpleasant. It’s akin to going to the dentist, where you’re glad when it’s over and you feel better for going. I can truthfully say it made a fantastic difference, my skin felt tighter, more flexible and even if I do say so myself I looked almost youthful. My husband was lucky to have such a young spring chicken on his arm! Unfortunately, I can’t afford to have these treatments every few months, so what about one of the home therapy versions? Can it keep me forever young and remove the signs of having three teenage boys from showing on my face?

DermaWand Review

Like a lot of people I first heard about DermaWand from an infomercial and having experienced professional treatment first hand, the product claims certainly piqued my interest. Is it really possible to see beauty salon results for a fraction of the price? Does DermWand really work? Are there any DermaWand side effects? Are the DermWand instructions easy to follow? In order to answer these questions I whipped out my Credit Card and proceeded to Amazon to put the product to the test, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the derma wand price, it was cheaper than I expected. I then waited in anticipation for the next day delivery and began to think about writing a review of DermaWand to document my progress.

The DermaWand Product

The wand itself is actually slightly bigger than I expected, but it’s not unwieldy, the design is simple, functional and easy to grip and manoeuvre. Even with my relatively small hands, I had no problems moving the wand around to target the areas of the face that I needed to. Included in the packaging were a beauty guide and preface cream. The guide is there to provide Derma Wand instructions, informing the user of how to exactly use the product, while the cream is supposed to enhance the effects of the treatment.

How to use Derma Wand

Using the wand is relatively straightforward. The derma wand instructions provide a good amount of detail about usage as well as having several tip and tricks to get the best out of each session. At a very basic level, you’ll want to make sure you’ve thoroughly cleaned and gently dried your face and neck. At this point feel free to indulge in a spot of moisturiser as this can actually help the effectiveness of the treatment. Next, you’ll want to start the wand with the lowest setting, slowly increasing the level until you’ve reached the desired comfort level and then start treating your neck and face. I could go into allot more details, but that’s an article in itself and beyond the scope of this Derma Wand review.

Using DermWand for the First Time

Having had professional high-frequency treatments in the past, the sound and sensation of using Derma Wand want not unexpected. The unit emits a slight electrical buzzing crackling sound, which might make some users slightly wary, it is, of course, safe and completely expected. The sensation of using the wand was ever so slightly unpleasant, it’s by no means unbearable, and the intensity can be reduced by changing the wands settings to whatever you feel most comfortable with. It’s difficult to describe how it feels; the best analogy I can come up with is that it’s a cross between receiving very small static shocks and having a warm lamp against your skin. I have heard some people actually enjoy the tingling sensation, I’m not one of those people, but you might be! The feeling from using the wand should not put you off the treatment; it’s not at all sore or irritating, it’s just unusual. After extended use, I very much began to get used to the treatment and had no issues cranking the Derma Wand up to its maximum setting.

DermaWand Review Results Week 1

After the first week of usage, the DermaWand did little to improve my appearance. Each session left me slightly flushed looking, but I understand this is due to the increased blood flow from the facial stimulation and is completely expected. It should be noted that I would not expect any visible results from a single week of usage, this product is a long-term fix for wrinkles and lines and not an overnight miracle worker.

Week 4

At this point in the DermaWand review, things started to change. The first clue that the product was starting to have an effect was a visible decrease in the size of my pores. I was prone to spots and blackheads for the whole of my adult life, having never had any as a teenager, this all changed when I had my first child and ever since then I’ve been subjected to breakouts. The dermawand treatment has definitely reduced the size of my pores and fingers crossed also my chances of having spots.

Week 8

First compliment! Today was an exciting day, my long-suffering husband actually complimented me on my complexion, or rather he asked, and I quote “have you changed your makeup? It looks better than your old one”. To answer the question, I have not changed my makeup, I rarely wear much anyway. Am I just naturally looking more youthful? Regardless of the compliment received, I actually do feel like my skin feels tighter and rejuvenated. I wish I had taken some photos at the start so I could do some derma wand before and after shots. As the changes are subtle and over a period of weeks it’s difficult to gauge a dramatic change, but I know for definite that it’s made a difference.

Week 12

We’re now three months into the review of derma wand and I should be able to answer the question, does derma wand work? The answer is YES! The improvements to my skin appearance have been noticeable, my face and neck feel tighter, more elastic and I definitely look like I’ve lost some of my worry lines. I’m actually really impressed. I didn’t have high hopes for the product, given that it’s far cheaper than a course of professional treatment, but the results have been surprising. I’m looking forward to how things progress over the next few months.

6 Months

I can’t believe it’s been half a year since I started this DermaWand review, the results have been pretty impressive. I’ve even convinced my ageing husband to start using the wand, and even though he won’t admit it, he’s looking better with each passing week. So has the DermaWand completely removed all lines and wrinkles, is it a fountain of youthfulness? The simple answer is no, it hasn’t made me look like a 25-year-old, nor would I expect it to. It has however made my skin look younger, the parts of my neck and face that were sagging due to gravity are no longer saggy, my face it tight and pert with only a scattering of lines to give my face some character. It’s part of my life now and I can’t see myself stopping using it.

DermaWand Side Effects

I have been asked several times if I’ve experienced any DermaWand side effects over the course of the derma wand review. Truthfully, having many months of documenting and analysing DermaWand during this review I can honestly say I’ve had no side effects and I have absolutely no DermaWand complaints. It’s worked for me, and it will probably work for most people, but I’m not an expert, so if you have any worries or concerns then it’s probably best to consult a trained physician.

If you’ve been inspired by my DermaWand review and intend to buy a DermaWand from an online store, then you have a few options. You can easily get the product directly from DermaWand or, if you prefer, you can get the wand from a retailer such as Amazon. I wouldn’t recommend going to another store, as you’ll want to ensure you’re getting a genuine product and the best way to do that is buying directly from Amazon. Both options provide a 31-day money back guarantee, so there’s very little risk if you’re not happy with your purchase.

DermaWand Alternatives

If you’re still unsure as to whether derma wand is the solution for you, then you might want to consider some alternative treatments. For full disclosure, I have not personally tested these.

NuBrilliance Micro Dermabrasion Skin Refresher & Reviver For Spots or...
  • Portable professional microdermabrasion technology
  • Unique combination of exfoliating and suction action

NuBrilliance is a microdermabrasion product that uses a dual action to exfoliate the skin and suction to promote collagen production and cell regeneration. From all accounts NuBrilliance works very well on the upper layers of the skin, reducing age spots, uneven skin and to some degree work to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I may well do a NuBrilliance review further down the line, but for the moment I’ll need to go on hearsay. The price of NuBrilliance is quite similar to Dermawand, so you may want to experiment with it as an alternative. You can buy NuBrilliance from Amazon.

Facemaster works by stimulating the facial muscles by way of very small electrical currents, it’s like a mini gym facial workout. Results are somewhat mixed with some users reporting great results while others less so. As with a lot of treatments of this sort, I think consistency is the key, it’s important to keep up with a treatment plan for a number of months in order to fully reap the rewards. You can buy the Facemaster on Amazon. I hope you’ve enjoyed my little DermaWand review, but please do let know if you have any feedback or comments below. I look forward to hearing from you.
